Volunteering, food, and public festivities in Araño

The Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory is organizing a volunteer day to remove acacia trees from the Araño common land comunity. This activity is coordinated by the Montescola Foundation, in collaboration with the Araño CMVMC and the A Carballeira de Baia Cultural Association.

April 7, 2025 – On Saturday, April 12, at 10:00 a.m., the Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory is organizing another environmental volunteer day to remove acacia trees from the Araño ‘monte vecinal’. The meeting point will be at the Campo da Festa do Araño.

The activity is coordinated by Montescola, the entity responsible for environmental education, volunteering, and community outreach activities within the framework of the Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory. The Araño Common Land Community, which owns the land, and the A Carballeira de Baia Cultural Association will also collaborate, complementing the event with a festive program open to the entire neighborhood.

The event is open to people of all ages and aims to raise awareness about the impact of invasive species, contributing to the ecological recovery of the ‘monte’. In appreciation, a light meal will be offered to participants at the conclusion of the day’s work, followed by traditional music, folk games, and dancing at the Souto de Buía (former school).

The activity will coincide with the traditional Sausage Festival, organized by the A Carballeira de Baia Cultural Association, which will begin at the end of the volunteer program, also at the Souto. The program includes sausage tasting, a performance by the Os Pequenos do Barbansa bagpipers, folk games, bingo, and dancing for all audiences.

Those interested can register until Thursday, April 10, by sending an email to info@montescola.org.
