Community fForesight workshop to collectively imagine the future of the common lands

The Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory is organizing a community foresight workshop in Baroña to collectively imagine the future of their common land and define concrete actions to make it a reality. The activity is coordinated by the Montescola Foundation, responsible for designing this innovative methodology within the framework of the project.

March 4, 2025 – The Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory is organizing a community foresight workshop in Baroña to help Common Land Communities [CMVMCs] collectively visualize the future of their ‘montes’ and transform that vision into concrete actions in the present. The event is coordinated by the Montescola Foundation, an organization specializing in environmental education and community development, which designed the methodology.

The workshop proposes a participatory approach so that communities can imagine what they would like their common land to be like in 30 years, creating a Community Action Plan that outlines the steps necessary to achieve that vision. This first day in Baroña will serve as a pilot for a series of 10 workshops that will run through December at the Rianxo and Lousame CMVMCs, with an expected participation of around 100 people.

The workshop program includes morning work sessions, a community lunch featuring common land products, a field visit, and the drafting of the Baroña Community Action Plan, a document that will capture the community’s shared strategy for making their ideal future a reality. Facilitation will be led by three technicians from the Montescola Foundation, who will guide the participatory process.

Twenty people of all ages, both community members and non-community members, are expected to participate. Those interested should register in advance by emailing info@montescola.org by Thursday, March 5th.

The Laboratory has just published the “Facilitation Guide for Imagining the ‘Montes Vecinales’ of the Future”, available for free download on its website. This guide offers a detailed and practical approach for other communities to replicate and adapt the methodology.
