February 13, 2025 – Next Monday, February 17, the Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory is organizing two educational workshops in Rianxo highlighting the fundamental role of women in the primary sector. These activities are being developed in collaboration with the “Máis ca leña” (More than firewood) initiative of the Xosé Mª Brea Segade Primary School and the Monte Vivo initiative of the Félix Muriel Secondary School. These activities are being coordinated by the Montescola Foundation, the entity responsible for the project’s community outreach, volunteering, and environmental education activities.

The sessions will be led by María Ferreiro, a beef cattle farmer in Teixeiro-Curtis and head of the Women’s Secretariat of the Galician Farmers’ Union, who will share her experience and address the challenges and opportunities of female entrepreneurship in rural and agroforestry settings.

These educational activities are part of the 4th Line of Action in the Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory, led by Montescola, whose objective is to strengthen networking and foster connections between local initiatives. The goal is to raise awareness among students about the importance of women in building sustainable and local production systems, encouraging reflection on the future of the primary sector in Galicia.
