The Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory is holding 'Xornadas polo Monte Vivo' in Rianxo on the first weekend of October
On Saturday, October 5th and Sunday, October 6th, the ‘Xornadas polo Monte Vivo’ (Days for a Living Common Land) will be held in Taragoña and Leiro (Rianxo) with a program full of activities to engage citizens in active land management.
September 24, 2024 — The Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory will host a weekend full of activities open to public participation, which will be held on Saturday, October 5th at Campo Maneiro in Taragoña and on Sunday, October 6th near the Vicente Vidal Cultural Center in Leiro.
The project’s partner organizations will carry out multiple activities this first weekend of October: training and outreach sessions, a guided tour of forestry work on the common lands managed by the Plataforma pola Defensa do Monte, grazing of their goat herd, community works, talks, and more.
These workshops are being held after the first eight months of the project, sponsored by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), as a small-scale demonstration of the project’s progress during this period. After being selected in the forest bioeconomy call, the Laboratory received almost €2 million in European funding to work in the Rianxo common land with the goals of generating employment and economic opportunities, conserving biodiversity, and preventing forest fires.
