The Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory team visited the A Fusquenlla Transformation Center, a benchmark in the processing of agri-food products, together with the Deputy for Employment of the A Coruña Provincial Council.
29 de agosto 2024 — Representatives of the Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory visited the A Fusquenlla Transformation Center in Moeche, one of eleven centers integrated into the Provincial Coworking Spaces Network of the A Coruña Provincial Council, inquiring about the network system and the center’s operation. The visit was also attended by the Deputy for Employment, Industry, Environment, and Demographic Policy, Rosa Ana García, Representative Cristina García Rey, and the Mayor of Moeche, Beatriz Bascoy.
The A Fusquenlla Processing Center is dedicated to the processing of agri-food products that meet sustainability and quality criteria. It is significantly strengthening the rural business community and promoting the economic and social development of the area, with a special focus on respect for the environment.
Serving the municipalities of Cerdido, Moeche, San Sadurniño, Valdoviño, Cedeira, Narón, and As Pontes, the Fusquenlla Center is a benchmark project in Galicia, especially with regards to food processing. This center allows small farms and individuals in the province of A Coruña to process their crops and produce products such as vegetable preserves, juices, jams, and honey, contributing to the upscaling and processing of local agri-food products and promoting a sustainable food system.
The Fusquenlla project is of particular interest to the Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory, which seeks to connect with other initiatives to learn from their experiences and establish a knowledge network on sustainable land management.
This visit by the Laboratory to the Fusquenlla Center is related to the actions promoted in this project by the Plataforma pola Defensa do Monte (PDM), in collaboration with the CMVMC of Baroña. These actions focus on promoting regenerative stockbreeding and the launch of a raw materials processing center in Barbanza.
The visit was attended by Rafael Saco, president of the PDM; Ovidio Queiruga, president of the Common Land Community (CMVMC) of Baroña; and Adrián Capelo, representative of Fundación RIA and project coordinator. Along with Deputy Rosa Ana García, they shared ideas on the role of the Fusquenlla Transformation Center as a driver of opportunities for rural areas and reaffirmed their commitment to continue collaborating on initiatives that promote a more sustainable future.
Barbanza Ecosocial Lab has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) of the Government of Spain, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
Coordinated by Fundación RIA, the Barbanza Ecosocial Lab is a project dedicated to promoting the transition towards environmental sustainability and strengthening resilience in the territorial management of the Barbanza common land.
