We spoke with Cope about the upcoming de-eucalyptization day of the Barbanza Ecosocial Lab

Joám Evans, the director of Montescola, spoke about the purpose of the Lab and the details of the upcoming volunteer day in Barbanza.

April 26, 2024 — On the occasion of the second call for volunteer days by the Barbanza Ecosocial Lab, this Tuesday we had the opportunity to share the project’s ambitions with the local Cope radio station and present the volunteer action led by Fundación Montescola.

t was the director of this entity, Joám Evans, who spoke with Íñigo Landa to delve into these issues. Asked about the approach to forest management, Joám emphasized the importance of working for their multifunctionality:

“The forest is not just for planting; it provides ecosystem services, it’s where our water supply comes from, where many people go for walks, where firewood is collected, where we keep livestock and bees, where we have cultural heritage; they are also green infrastructures, acting as firebreaks that can either protect or endanger villages… So, depending on how the forest is managed, society will experience either benefits or negative impacts”.

Barbanza Ecosocial Lab has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) of the Government of Spain, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

Coordinated by Fundación RIA, the Barbanza Ecosocial Lab is a project dedicated to promoting the transition towards environmental sustainability and strengthening resilience in the territorial management of the Barbanza common land.
