New volunteer day, now working to remove eucalyptus from Baroña
The Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory is organizing the second volunteer day, this time in the forests of Baroña, with the aim of engaging local communities in the restoration of biodiversity.
April 19, 2024 — Following the success of the previous event, the Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory is now organizing a new volunteer day in the Barbanza peninsula.
Once again, the activity is being organized by the Montescola Foundation (the entity responsible for the Laboratory’s community foresight, volunteering, and environmental education activities), and this time has the collaboration of the Baroña Common Land Community.
This new event will take place on the morning of Sunday, April 28, in the Baroña ‘montes’, where work will be done to remove eucalyptus trees. Open to all ages and audiences, the activity will focus on eliminating eucalyptus shoots to prevent their proliferation in the ‘monte’ and promote the recovery of biodiversity.
The meeting point will be the CMVMC in Baroña at 9:30 a.m. From there, participants will walk to the intervention area and stop at 2:00 p.m. to eat at the community center.
Interested participants can register for the activity by sending an email to info@montescola.org before Thursday the 25th. In appreciation, a traditional (light) meal will be offered to participants at the conclusion of the day’s work.
Barbanza Ecosocial Lab has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) of the Government of Spain, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
Coordinated by Fundación RIA, the Barbanza Ecosocial Lab is a project dedicated to promoting the transition towards environmental sustainability and strengthening resilience in the territorial management of the Barbanza common land.
